SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 11, 2002 - IDT (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, and VoicePump, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of DSP Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: DSPG), today announced a strategic partnership to deliver a voice-enabled asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) reference platform for customers designing customer premises equipment (CPE). Jointly developed by IDT and VoicePump, the reference platform enables customers to simplify their design process, accelerating the product development and time-to-market cycle for systems that support voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) or voice-over-digital subscriber line (VoDSL) technologies.
There are few voice-enabled platforms in the gateway market today. The combination of IDT's RC32355 integrated communications processor and VoicePump's VP140 intelligent CODEC will enable customers to design a cost-effective, flexible platform that supports both data-only gateways and integrated access devices (IADs). As a two-chip solution, this single system architecture approach maximizes software code reuse between several end products, thereby improving time to market. Additionally, customers are able to focus their engineering efforts on value-added features, thus allowing product differentiation.
"VoicePump is partnering with industry-leading integrated communications processor vendor IDT to provide a highly scalable IAD platform that addresses support of data and voice traffic," said Cole Erskine, VoicePump's chief technology officer. "The IDT and VoicePump reference platform offers a solution that our shared customers can integrate with confidence, knowing that the technologies are fully compatible."
The 79RP355V reference platform, consisting of IDT's 79RP355 gateway reference design and VoicePump's VP140 evaluation board, incorporates highly integrated hardware, as well as the necessary firmware for support in the development of VoIP and VoDSL applications. The inclusion of industry-standard input/output (I/O) interfaces on IDT's RC32355 integrated communications processor simplifies connectivity between the wide area network (WAN), the local area network (LAN) and the voice subsystem. The processor's high-performance central processing unit (CPU) core enables value-added capabilities and services for differentiating the end application, offering further system flexibility options and providing an opportunity to add new features to deployed units in the field via download over the network. VoicePump's VP140 intelligent CODEC performs all of the voiceband processing functions required for support of voice channels, including on-chip capabilities for speech compression, echo cancellation and four-channel signaling.
"As a company focused on 'powering what's next,' IDT believes the partnership with VoicePump will help us to be well positioned for the emergence of VoDSL and VoIP technology," said Sandra Chang, strategic alliance program manager for IDT's Internetworking Products Division. "VoicePump's inclusion of digital signal processing (DSP) functionality and traditional telephony circuitry, coupled with the availability of a broad selection of commonly used voice algorithms, provides a low-cost voice subsystem that can be implemented very quickly and efficiently as part of our customers' designs."
IDT's
RC32355 Integrated Communications Processor
IDT's RC32355 integrated communications processor is a single-chip solution
optimized to address system bandwidth needs with an unprecedented combination
of performance, flexibility and integration. Targeted at the CPE market,
the RC32355 integrated communications processor is supported by software
and tools from market leaders of complementary technology, like VoicePump,
to provide a complete hardware and software solution for designers of
gateway system equipment.
With the introduction of the RC32355 integrated communications processor, IDT is the first company to successfully integrate ATM, Ethernet, USB and telephony interfaces with a high-performance microprocessor core, while maintaining concurrent wire speed on all interfaces. These capabilities offer designers increased flexibility to meet the system requirements of the CPE market.
VoicePump's
VP140
Announced in October 2000, VoicePump's VP140 series is designed to integrate
DSP Group's TeakLite® programmable DSP core with all
requisite peripherals to perform four packet voice channels on a single
processor: program/data memory, host processor interface, analog front
end, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters.
The VP100 family also integrates the necessary DSP firmware to perform a comprehensive range of DSP functions, including speech compression and decompression, echo cancellation and associated telephony signaling functions. This integrated silicon/software product offering is ideally suited for use as the voiceband-processing engine of VoDSL IADs and VoIP gateways for small and medium enterprises, as well as residences.
