SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 3, 2003 - IDT™ (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company and the leading provider of network search engines (NSEs), today announced that Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd., one of Japan’s leading communications companies, has selected its 256Kx36 (128Kx72) and 128Kx36 (64Kx72) NSEs to accelerate packet processing and enable intelligent application management for Furukawa’s next-generation FITELnet G-Series Gigabit routers. The IDT 256Kx36 and 128Kx36 high-performance NSEs enable full-wire speed Layer 2-4 packet processing, and also allow Furukawa’s G-Series Gigabit routers to provide comprehensive quality of service (QoS) and class of service (CoS) functions such as policed priority queuing and dynamic multicast QoS routing functions. In addition, the NSEs include segmentation capabilities to minimize power consumption, making them ideal for use in a wide range of Enterprise and carrier-class network equipment.
Designed to deliver the features, performance, reliability and scalability that today’s network environments demand, Furukawa’s FITELnet G-Series Gigabit routers enable network providers to extend the existing carrier IP or multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) infrastructure into the metro edge. Furukawa’s adoption of the IDT NSEs reaffirms IDT as the leader in switching and routing semiconductors and in the subcategory of network search engines as recognized in an October 2002 report by RHK, Inc., a market research and consulting firm specializing in the analysis of advanced technologies for the global telecommunications network.
“Our confidence in the IDT NSEs was underscored by a cost-performance point coupled with strong local support that helped us shorten our design cycle and meet our very competitive time-to-market goals,” said Masanori Horiguchi, chief engineer, network equipment division, Furukawa Electric. “The biggest merit of the IDT NSE was its segmentation capability that allows us minimize the power consumption of our Gigabit routers. The 576-bit search key bandwidth was also important for us to enable the flexible packet processing for our Gigabit Router that supports IPv6. Finally, IDT was able to illustrate a clear roadmap to even higher performance and higher density devices, allowing us to plan for our next-generation Gigabit routers.”
“As the market share and technology leader in NSEs, we continuously work with customers to help address the performance and time-to-market problems they face. We have seen widespread adoption of our network search engines fueled by the performance and service-enhancing features of the architecture,” said Dave Cech, director of marketing for the IDT network search engines. “Furukawa’s FITELnet G-Series Gigabit routers are a great illustration of the level of integration and capabilities the IDT NSEs can deliver for a wide range of wireless, Enterprise and carrier-class networks.”

IP Co-Processor Solutions
IDT provides a family of IP co-processor solutions, including industry-leading
network search engines and content inspection engines that accelerate
packet processing and enable intelligent application management in
next-generation networking equipment. IDT is recognized by RHK, Inc.
and International Data Corporation (IDC) as the technology leader,
and as the volume shipment leader of network search engines. Based
on the integration of content addressable memory (CAM) and high-performance
logic, the IDT NSEs support NPUs and ASICs to accelerate packet classification
and forwarding in core, metro and access networks. IDT offers the
industry’s highest-performance NSE operating up to 250 MHz and
the first NSE with an integrated LA-1 interface, and was the first
vendor to introduce search widths up to 576 bits. The IDT NSE portfolio
includes custom versions for Cisco Systems, as well as devices with
general-purpose and glue-less interfaces to network processors. The
IDT 256Kx36 (128Kx72) NSE received the EDN Top 100 Products Award
of 2002.
The IDT content inspection engines are capable of parsing and classifying data up to Layer 7, a functionality that, when coupled with the NSEs, allows for inspection of content in both the packet header and payload, resulting in more intelligent packet processing at wire speed. IDT is an active NPF member and contributor to NPF and the LA interface definition and serves as chairman of the board. More information about the NPF can be found at www.npforum.org.
