SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 19, 2003 - Demonstrating its continued leadership in providing embedded security solutions, IDT™ (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, and Cavium Networks, the price/performance leader in security processing, today announced a partnership to offer a complete Linux®-based development platform for small and medium enterprise (SME) security-accelerated gateways and virtual private network (VPN)/firewall appliances. The platform provides a comprehensive hardware and software solution based on the IDT RC32438 Interprise™ integrated communications processor and the Cavium NITROX™ Lite CN1001i Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) macro processor. The bundled software is license-free and royalty-free, and includes the Cavium-optimized implementation of the Linux® FreeS/WAN IPSec security stacks integrated with the IDT royalty-free Linux kernel (v 2.4.18) and supplied GNU development tools.
The joint IDT and Cavium platform delivers a complete, flexible security solution that provides a high degree of security by partitioning critical security functions on Cavium’s Nitrox Lite, away from the operating system where most security attacks are propagated. Additionally, the platform provides high-performance Internet key exchange (IKE) and authentication acceleration for SME gateways. VPN over wireless LAN (WLAN) solutions utilizing IPSec and supporting full tri-mode performance (802.11a/b/g) can also be developed on this platform by using the IDT processor’s high-bandwidth PCI interface to connect to PCI-based WLAN modules.
“With the rapid growth of the SME gateway market and the growing importance of security services in this segment, both companies recognized the value of combining Cavium’s leading-edge security technology with our expertise in the integrated communications processor market,” said Alex Soohoo, strategic marketing manager for the IDT Internetworking Products Division. “These products are highly compatible, utilizing the PCI interface for connectivity and ensuring optimal system performance for next-generation SME/VPN gateway designs.”
“The IDT RC32438 Interprise™ processor was an ideal choice for building a SME/VPN gateway reference platform with our line of NITROX Lite security co-processors,” said Amer Haider, head of strategic marketing for Cavium Networks. “In addition to providing our mutual customers a comprehensive platform to enable security-accelerated gateway designs, designers utilizing the IDT and Cavium processors have the capability to develop SME/VPN gateways with a $100 bill of materials (BOM) in volume.”
