Company Press Release
Santa
Clara, Calif., October 31, 2000 – Lineo, Inc., and IDT, Inc., today
announced the availability of Lineo's flagship embedded product, Embedix,
on IDT's RC32334 integrated processor, featuring a 32-bit MIPS®
instruction set architecture (ISA). This initial joint development
effort provides a validated Linux kernel on the RC32334 in conjunction
with drivers for PCI-based communications peripherals that interface
directly to the RC32334 via the component's on-chip PCI bus interface.
"Device
manufacturers can turn to Lineo for X86, PowerPC and now MIPS ISA
support using our Linux product line," said Bryan Sparks, CEO,
Lineo, Inc. "IDT has been a critical partner in helping Lineo
to offer support for the Embedix product on MIPS architecture-based
solutions."
The Embedix
operating system on the RC32334 is particularly appropriate for extremely
cost-sensitive embedded applications in communications and consumer
markets including home gateways, SOHO routers and Internet appliances.
Customers can utilize some of the broad range of software written
for the Embedix operating system to reduce system development cycles,
based on a well-supported software kernel.
"IDT
has seen increased interest in Linux-based solutions for the communications
sub-markets targeted with our integrated processors," said Ian
Ferguson, technical marketing manager for IDT's Internetworking Products
Division. "The combination of Lineo's development tools and added
value utilities beyond the Linux kernel make Lineo a compelling third-party
software partner for IDT."
Availability
Embedix is currently available from IDT as part of the evaluation
kit for the RC32334 integrated CPU and directly from Lineo. Additionally,
support for MIPS-based CPUs, including the RC32334, will be incorporated
into the next release of Lineo's software development kit (SDK) early
next year.
