Company Press Release
Des Moines, IA - September 25, 2000 - Microware Systems Corporation
(Nasdaq: MWAR), a leading provider of embedded software solutions,
announced a cooperative agreement to provide a version of its OS-9®
real-time operating system (RTOS) product suite optimized for the
Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) (Nasdaq: IDTI) RC323xx RISController™
family of embedded processors.
The package Microware and IDT are developing for the communication
market is based on the RC32334™ integrated processor, IDT's first
integrated processor to be based on the RC32300™ CPU core, and Microware's
communication software, SoftStax.™ SoftStax uses a unique, driver-based
networking framework to allow designers to hot-swap networking technologies
and protocols.
"The RC32300 architecture-based processors provide complete integration
and the maximum degree of design flexibility. Microware's agreement
with IDT lays the groundwork for a family of integrated processors
designed to power networking and communications applications," said
Sue Duhring, product team director at Microware. "For example, the
first processor to ship, RC32334, is an ideal solution for customers
who demand efficient processing, minimal board space and the integration
of standard system modules to speed time to market."
The addition of support for the RC32334 processor extends Microware's
support for low-cost, high-performance embedded solutions for developers
of network equipment such as small office-home office (SOHO) routers,
LAN switches and xDSL communications applications.
"Microware OS-9® solutions for this processor family provide the
best scalable RTOS kernel in the industry tuned for IDT's integrated
32-bit processors," said Ian Ferguson, technical marketing manager
for IDT's Internetworking Products Division. "The system security
is an unbeatable point for OEMs who need healthy run-time performance
for their equipment."
The development tools that come with Microware's OS-9® OEM package
are tuned for the IDT processor. The tools include the Ultra C/C++
compiler, Hawk IDE and HawkEye visual analyzer. Microware customers
will get the complete tool set with the OS-9® OEM package at no extra
cost. Microware's product-based pricing model allows OEMs to develop
more RC323xx-based projects without repurchasing OS-9®. "Microware's
OS-9® is a component-based, process-type RTOS with threads support,"
said Duhring. "The modularity isolates protocols and components making
them available for target independent software development and increased
software reusability."
Availability
Microware will have a beta version available at the end of September
2000. The final product will be available in October.
