Accelerated
Technology Announces Network Developer Solution with IDT Integrated
Processor Support
APRIL
9, 2001, MOBILE, AL -- Accelerated Technology, Inc. (ATI), the leader
of source code and non-royalty based real-time operating system (RTOS)
software, today announced a partnership with IDT that will provide developers
of networking and communications applications with new, flexible support
of its Nucleus real-time kernel and protocol stack using the IDT RC32332
and RC32334 integrated processors.
Accelerated Technology's Nucleus PLUS, a scalable real-time kernel,
and Nucleus NET, a full-featured TCP/IP protocol stack, deliver a high-performance
foundation for developers of network equipment using the full functionality
offered by IDT's RC32332 and RC32334 integrated processors. Together,
the Nucleus and IDT products integrate the maximum degree of design
flexibility, facilitate and speed time to market for application developers
in small office/home office (SOHO) routers, local area network (LAN)
switches and digital subscriber line (DSL) residential gateways.
"Since
we started supporting MIPS, IDT has been a preferred solution for us.
Their boards are complete, and their support is great. I am glad to
see yet another IDT processor added to our already complete list of
MIPS products," said Neil Henderson, president of Accelerated Technology,
Inc.
"IDT
is pleased to partner with ATI to bring together two very compatible
solutions," said Ian Ferguson, strategic marketing manager for
IDT's Internetworking Product Division. "ATI's royalty-free software
coupled with IDT's fully functional integrated processor will provide
application developers in the communications market with a very cost-effective
solution."
About
Nucleus PLUS and Nucleus NET
The Nucleus PLUS kernel provides efficient, high-performance task management,
inter-task communication, inter-task synchronization, memory management,
and component query features. Optimizations in system clock, interrupt
and compiler register usage are only part of the advanced features provided
by Nucleus PLUS. The kernel handles difficult issues such as priority
inversion while minimizing the interrupt latency to a few microseconds.
Nucleus NET, a scalable embedded TCP/IP stack, is the basis for ATI's
networking suite. Nucleus NET, unlike other protocol stacks in the embedded
industry, was built from the ground up for the real-time embedded market.
In addition, critical portions of the stack have been optimized, resulting
in a stack that is among the smallest and fastest on the market. Nucleus
NET's basic protocols include: TCP, UDP, IP, ICMP, IGMP, ARP, RARP,
DHCP, BOOTP, DNS. Nucleus NET seamlessly integrates within ATI's multitasking
environment and takes advantage of some of the unique features of Nucleus
PLUS (like suspending on a queue for a timeout) to enhance the timing
characteristics of the stack. The design philosophy behind Nucleus NET
was to minimize the amount of time the application spends in the protocol
stack. This feature reduces the overhead of networking support within
an embedded application because it is minimally intrusive to the application
About the RC32334 Integrated Communications Processor
The RC32332 and RC32334 integrated processors offer the maximum design
flexibility, and lay the groundwork for a family of integrated processors
designed to power networking and communications applications. In addition
to a high-performance MIPS instruction set architecture (ISA) central
processing unit (CPU) core, the devices include a memory controller
that support a range of SDRAM, ROM and flash memory components. Additionally,
the PCI interface enables direct connection to a broad range of networking,
storage and graphics. The RC32334 is an ideal solution for customers
who require high performance and the consumption of minimal board space,
and the RC32332 is a good fit for cost-sensitive applications.
Pricing and Availability
Nucleus embedded software is sold with source code and without royalty
fees. Licenses for Nucleus PLUS start at $12,495 and licenses for Nucleus
NET start at $14,995.
The RC32332 is packaged using a 208-pin quad flat pack (QFP) package.
Available in 100-MHz and 133-MHz versions, the RC32332 devices are priced
from $16.00 (10,000-unit OEM pricing). The RC32334 is packaged in a
256-ball plastic ball grid array (PBGA) measuring just 17mm x 17mm,
and is available in 100-MHz, 133-MHz and 150-MHz versions. RC32334 devices
are priced from $19.00 (10,000-unit OEM pricing). Additional product
information can be found on IDT's Web site at www.idt.com/products/welcome.html.
