Acme Packet Uses IDT Network Search Engines to Deliver Interactive Communications across IP Network Borders
San JOSE, Calif., July 11, 2006 — IDT™ (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; NASDAQ: IDTI), a leading provider of vital semiconductor solutions, today announced Acme Packet has chosen an IDT Network Search Engine (NSE) for inclusion in its leading-edge family of Net-Net session border controllers (SBC). The IDT75K62213 NSE helps the Net-Net family provide critical service reach, service assurance and security requirements for the delivery of interactive voice, video and multimedia communications across IP network borders through its ability to process network address translation and address resolution protocol look-ups. The IDT NSE is a critical component in allowing the session border controllers to seamlessly maintain the performance required for latency sensitive voice and video traffic.
“As businesses continue to migrate toward IP communications, secure and flexible next generation services are critical. For the network search engine that would work with our session border controller, we needed a level of execution and capabilities and IDT delivered on our requirements,” said Ephraim Dobbins, vice president of engineering for Acme Packet. “Quality of service and reliability are extremely important to our customers and the IDT NSE helps us to ensure they can receive their voice, video and multimedia services uninterrupted.”
Acme Packet provides session border controllers, a growing category of network equipment that provides critical control functions to enable high quality interactive communications—voice, video and multimedia sessions—across IP network borders. The Net-Net product family delivers session border control functionality with the performance, capacity, scalability, availability and manageability to support next-generation converged fixed-mobile architectures. The Acme Packet family of Net-Net SBCs supports both subscriber access and network interconnect border requirements in wireline, cable and wireless networks.
“As peer to peer and other session based traffic continue to expand, session border controllers are becoming critical components of tomorrow’s enterprise and service provider converged network. Enabling high performance session border control functions will be at the heart of providing high quality, uninterrupted voice, video and data flows to enterprise customers and consumers worldwide,” said Deb Mielke, managing director of Treillage Network Strategies, Inc. “IDT, as a supplier of vital search acceleration solutions, is uniquely positioned to be a market and technology leader in enabling this building block for the network of tomorrow.”
The IDT NSE operates seamlessly with Acme Packet’s chosen network processor and offers superior performance offloading classification and forwarding lookups that provide 256-bits of associated data per look up – the highest in the industry. This allows more information to be associated per look-up, reducing the number of look-ups needed and improving overall performance. Additionally, the 75K62213 incorporates database management features that enable significant power savings. The feature-rich IDT NSE also enables ease of use and flexibility with its comprehensive software and hardware development package that seamlessly integrates into the reference platform of the network processor implemented by Acme Packet.
“The search technology provided by IDT continues to deliver unparalleled performance and feature-rich integration for our customers. Our partnership with Acme Packet grew because we are the only supplier of network search engines that could deliver the promised feature set andcapabilities required for their application,” said Dave Cech, director of marketing for the IDT IP co-processor division. “By combining beneficial features with a seamless network processor interconnect and software support, we continue to provide unparalleled design ease and flexibility with deterministic search performance enabling uninterrupted, seamless streams of data across IP borders.”
