IDT RapidIO Gen2 Switch Selected by VadaTech to Double MicroTCA Ecosystem Performance

IDT’s Industry-leading RapidIO Gen2 Switch Selected for 25 Percent to 100 Percent Performance Improvement over Other Embedded Interconnect Solutions for MicroTCA

SAN JOSE, Calif., February 16, 2012 – Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®) (NASDAQ: IDTI), the Analog and Digital Company™ delivering essential mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, today announced that the IDT CPS-1848 Gen2 RapidIO® switch has been selected by VadaTech Inc., a leading provider of innovative hardware solutions for embedded systems markets, for its UTC002 MicroTCA Carrier Hub (MCH) switch cards. VadaTech selected IDT’s RapidIO switch for the key benefits in throughput, latency, carrier-grade reliability, quality of service and overall system power usage.

VadaTech chose Serial RapidIO (S-RIO) because the protocol is optimized for embedded applications and high-performance backplanes. With the CPS-1848, VadaTech is able to deliver double the performance of 10 GbE solutions and 25 percent better performance than its PCIe Gen2 solutions. The IDT S-RIO switch offers 20 Gbps of bandwidth per link, 100 ns cut-through latency, 240 Gbps of aggregate non-blocking switch performance, robust fault tolerance and hot-swap support, and built-in reliable transmission. These performance, reliability and power advantages are essential in servicing VadaTech’s customer base in wireless, industrial, military, imaging and high-performance computing markets.

“We’re pleased that VadaTech has selected RapidIO Gen2 and the IDT CPS-1848 switch for its MicroTCA Carrier Hub and switch card,” said Tom Sparkman, vice president of the Communications Division at IDT. “VadaTech’s selection of IDT RapidIO products is a demonstration of the market’s demand for RapidIO-based 20 Gbps low-latency switching in MicroTCA systems. It’s another example of why RapidIO continues to thrive in performance-driven markets where its protocol advantages in peer-to-peer networks offer a compelling value proposition.”

“As a performance extension to our UTC001 RapidIO 1.3-enabled MCH using IDT’s CPS-10Q switch, we chose IDT’s CPS-1848 RapidIO Gen2 switch as the interconnect backbone for the multi-processor systems that our customers need to support inside MicroTCA systems. IDT’s solution provided low and deterministic latency, low power and excellent software scalability – all of which are critical to our MicroTCA customer base,” said Saeed Karamooz, CEO at VadaTech. “We have been delivering high-quality MicroTCA Systems to the market with RapidIO 1.3, and moving to RapidIO Gen2 is a natural evolution for our customers. RapidIO allows them to deliver solutions to the end markets that surpass anything that is possible with other mainstream embedded protocols demanded by our MicroTCA customers.”

The IDT CPS-1848 is one of many RapidIO switch and bridge offerings from IDT’s industry-leading portfolio. IDT provides a family of switches with a wide variety of port and lane counts that allow customers to tailor their switch selection to the application.
