A printer is an electronic device which takes text or graphics from documents stored in an electronic form, and transforms it into a hard copy on paper or transparency. Printers are usually connected to a computer via a USB cord, although some printers use wireless technology. Certain printers have the ability to directly interface with memory cards and cameras. Printers can also be combined into one unit with fax machines and scanners known as a multi-function printer, providing centralized document management, distribution and production such as printing, scanning, copying and faxing.

A laser printer rapidly produces high quality text and graphics. As with digital photocopiers and multifunction printers (MFPs), laser printers employ a xerographic printing process, but differ from analog photocopiers in that the image is produced by the direct scanning of a laser beam across the printer's photoreceptor.
