Central Package Switch (CPS)

The IDT family of central packet switches (CPS) addresses the interconnect needs of those embedded applications that utilize DSPs, FPGAs or processors. Incorporating in-house third-generation IDT SERDES and serial RapidIO® core switch technology, the solutions provide superior flexibility, scalability, performance, and power consumption at very competitive costs. These best-in-class switches provide significant system advantages in connecting virtually any digital media component to any other, in applications ranging from wireless infrastructure to enterprise storage, imaging, medical, military, IPTV, and other high-end communications markets and embedded applications.

About the Central Packet Switch Solutions

The CPS family includes 4x and 1x port options coupled with enhanced features for system bring-up and debug. Available in three device configurations — 16-port, 12-port, and 8-port options for 1x port counts — the CPS family is pin-to-pin compatible with the IDT PPS Gen 2 family of devices, allowing customers the flexibility to upgrade their next-generation systems to the more powerful pre-processing solution with no impact on hardware or board design.

The central packet solutions are serial RapidIO-based switches whose functionality is central to routing packets for distribution among DSPs, processors FPGAs,other switchesorany otherserial RapidIO-based devices. They can also be used in serial RapidIO backplane switching, and support serial RapidIO packet switching (unicast, multicast and an optional broadcast) from any of their input ports to any of their output ports. Each port can be configured for 3.125 Gbaud, 2.5 Gbaud, or 1.25 Gbaud, for long haul (backplane) or short haul (board) transmission profiles, with configurable drive strengths and pre-emphasis settings.
  • CPS-16 offers support for up to 16 ports of 1x or 4 ports of 4x (or combinations of 1x/4x) , with full 40 Gbps bandwidth support
  • CPS-12 provides 12 ports 1x or 3 ports 4x (or combinations), with full 30 Gbps bandwidth support
  • CPS-8 provides 8 ports 1x or 1 port 4x with 4 ports 1x, with full 20 Gbps bandwidth support
