Multi-channel Power Management Solutions (PMIC / PMU)

IDT offers highly-integrated multi-channel system power management solutions to meet the performance, efficiency, and feature requirements of next-generation portable and fixed electronics. IDT’s PMIC solutions help system designers reduce bill-of-materials (BOM), overcome thermal dissipation challenges, simplify PCB routing, and improve monitoring and control capabilities.
Intelligent, Scalable, Distributed Power Management for Portable Multi-core Processors
The IDTP9165 is a scalable, programmable, multi-channel PMIC solution specifically designed to support the power management requirements of quad-core processor platforms, such as tablet PCs, clam shell devices, smartphones, ebooks, high-end digital cameras, client solid-state drives (SSD) and set-top boxes. Unlike traditional solutions that require a different PMIC for different power requirements, the highly-versatile IDTP9165 enables a system designer to add additional phases and output current to the internal DC/DC regulator by simply attaching one or more compact, inexpensive external power sources (IDTP9167). This feature minimizes development risk by ensuring that the PMIC solution is capable and optimized to meet the SoC’s evolving power requirements. In addition, the modular nature of the add-on power modules offers tremendous flexibility for point-of-load regulation, circuit board routing and thermal distribution.
The new PMIC is a complete power management solution that includes: up to five integrated synchronous step-down DC/DC regulators, 11 LDOs, a real time clock (RTC), a 10-bit ADC, multiple GPIOs, and a high-speed I2C interface. Each IDTP9167 intelligent, scalable, distributed power source efficiently provides up to 6 A of additional peak current, for up to a total of 48 A (eight devices). In addition, the solution also offers a high degree of configurability through one-time-programmable (OTP) memory that can be programmed prior to shipment. This enables the customer to set custom default power sequences and configurations without the need for the high-speed I2C interface.
Unparalleled Integration
The IDTP95020 is the first of a new generation of standardized application-specific controllers that incorporates a general purpose microcontroller, a high fidelity audio CODEC including headphone outputs and a 2.5W class D audio amplifier, full power management functionality, a touch screen controller, LED driver, and a real time clock - all of which are required by various consumer electronics, including cellular phone handsets, portable gaming devices, digital media players, and multifunction printers.
