Integrated DDR3 Register and Validation Platform Solution Enable DDR3 Ecosystem Growth for Both System and DIMM Vendors
SAN JOSE, Calif., – April 9, 2007 – IDT™ (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; NASDAQ: IDTI), a leading provider of vital semiconductor solutions, today announced the industry’s fastest JEDEC-compatible integrated register and phase-locked loop (PLL) for DDR3 registered dual in-line memory modules (RDIMMs). The device’s integrated PLL supports the industry’s widest range of operating clock speeds, from DDR3-800 to DDR3-1600 with a propagation delay of less than 1 nanosecond. Designed for a new generation of high performance servers and workstations, the IDT 74SSTE32882 offers twice the speed of today’s DDR2 solution with a 30 percent reduction in power consumption.
In addition, IDT continues to help drive the development of the RDIMM ecosystem by providing the DDR3 industry with a standardized validation platform known as the Register Validation Board (RVB). The RVB will allow all members of the DDR3 ecosystem to test, debug, and validate DDR3 Register-DIMMs on a standardized platform. Moreover, the RVB enables the DDR3 community to self-validate the functionality of each of their RDIMM designs, and will further help speed the adoption of DDR3 RDIMMs. The IDT RVB will be available for the DDR3 industry through the JEDEC standards body.
The integration of the register and PLL into a single device enables RDIMM vendors to develop a simplified design and board layout. In addition, the 74SSTE32882 supports an internal PLL feedback loop to reduce trace routing and spread spectrum clocking to reduce EMI. The supply voltage for the 74SSTE32882 is reduced to 1.5V, limiting power consumption and heat generation. These features offer RDIMM vendors important business value because they enable significant cost savings through the reduction of valuable board real estate and the elimination of external components.
“Micron is pleased that IDT is again showing leadership in next generation Registered DIMMs with their DDR3 JEDEC-compliant register and the development of the register validation board,” said, Bill Lauer, Senior Marketing Director of Micron's Memory Products Group. “We anticipate next year that DDR3 RDIMMs will become an important memory solution for high-performance servers, offering significant advantages in terms of lower power consumption, higher throughput rates and increased module densities.”
In keeping with the IDT objective to support industry standards, the IDT 74SSTE32882 is designed to be fully compatible with the most current JEDEC specification. The guideline set by JEDEC ensures interoperability for all JEDEC compatible DDR3 solutions and will help facilitate the growth of the DDR3 market.
“Successful delivery of the DDR3 register demonstrates continued commitment by IDT to the dual in-line memory module market,” said Sean Fan,vice president and general manager, Memory Interface Division, IDT. “IDT is committed to enabling CPU and DIMM vendors with the emerging DDR3 market. We are pleased to continue our leadership as we work with DIMM vendors to develop a DDR3 memory module that is not only JEDEC compliant, but also delivers significant power savings and superior performance.”
