IDT Technology Ideal for Use in 3.5G and 4G Wireless Base Stations and Other Processing-Intensive Applications
SAN JOSE, Calif., October 6, 2009 – IDT® (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; NASDAQ: IDTI), a leading provider of essential mixed signal semiconductor solutions that enrich the digital media experience, today announced that the IDT CPS-10Q Serial RapidIO® switch has been selected by Freescale™ Semiconductor for connecting three multi-core MSC8156 digital signal processors (DSPs) on its Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) development platform. The CPS-10Q provides high port count and optimal aggregate bandwidth, addressing interconnect-bandwidth requirements of up to 10 Gbps between on-board components for increased performance.
The CPS-10Q is a 10 4x port RapidIO switch and is well suited to interconnect several Freescale MSC8156 multi-core DSPs on a single AMC card, enabling an advanced solution that allows wireless base station manufacturers to achieve optimal performance. The use of the IDT CPS-10Q with the Freescale DSPs is ideal for system OEMs developing 3.5G and 4G wireless base stations, media gateways and video and radar signal processing. These processing-intensive applications require high-performance DSPs and the high-throughput, low-latency characteristics in a Serial RapidIO solution. Freescale has tested the combination of its DSP devices with IDT products to help meet the interconnect needs of LTE traffic.

The IDT CPS-10Q enables low latency Serial RapidIO interconnect capabilities at up to 10 Gbps, thereby supporting the bandwidth-per-link requirements of key applications. Freescale's MSC8156 multi-core DSP offers up to 10 Gbps per Serial RapidIO port. Customers can take advantage of the benefits of this platform in stand-alone mode within MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA systems or within the IDT Serial RapidIO development platform.

The IDT central packet solutions are Serial RapidIO-based switches with functionality that is central to routing packets for distribution among clusters of DSPs field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), processors or any other Serial RapidIO-based devices. They can also be used in Serial RapidIO backplane switching. They support Serial RapidIO packet switching (unicast and multicast) from any of their input ports to any of their output ports. The devices include IDT technical support available from product definition to application support.
