New Family Member Offers Increased Bandwidth, Configurability, Flexibility and Diagnostics Through Proprietary Graphical User Interface
June 16, 2008

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 16, 2008 – IDT® (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; NASDAQ: IDTI), a leading provider of essential mixed signal semiconductor solutions that enrich the digital media experience, today announced a new member of the IDT family of central packet switches (CPS). The new device provides IDT customers with the opportunity for more bandwidth, productivity and performance than existing CPS family members by offering up to ten 4x ports of 10G connectivity. The resulting increase in throughput provides system advantages in high-bandwidth-intensive applications ranging from 3.5G and 4G wireless infrastructures to next-generation enterprise storage, imaging applications and beyond. Moreover, the serial RapidIO® (sRIO®)-based switch addresses the interconnect needs of embedded applications whose functionality is central to routing packets for distribution amongst DSPs, FPGAs or processors, other switches, or any other sRIO-based devices.
As with other members of the CPS family, the 80KSW0005 incorporates in-house fourth-generation IDT SerDes and sRIO core switch technology to provide customers with superior flexibility, scalability, performance and power consumption at very competitive costs. The new device supports sRIO packet switching (including unicast, multicast and optional broadcast) from any of its 10 input ports to any of its 10 output ports and is pin-to-pin compatible with the existing IDT PPS family of devices, allowing customers the flexibility to upgrade their next-generation systems to the more powerful pre-processing solution with no impact on hardware or board design.
“This new CPS device is a great addition to our industry-leading portfolio of serial RapidIO solutions. It is a direct result of working closely with our customers, and understanding their performance and bandwidth requirements,” said Thomas Brenner, vice president and general manager for the IDT Flow Control Management division. “Our family of serial Rapid IO devices, which include the CPS family, the PPS family, the 10G serial buffer and CPRI supporting FICs, ensure that our customers recognize us as the industry best, not only on technical merit and end-to-end system solutions, but also on the partner-level support that is bundled with our solutions.”
Leveraging the serial RapidIO, JTAG and I2C interconnect standards, the IDT CPS family specifically addresses such markets as wireless and wireline, imaging, medical, military, IPTV, and other high-end communications markets and embedded applications. Following the IDT initiative to provide unparalleled performance in power efficient configurations, the CPS family offers IDT customers a best-in-class solution through fastest possible time-to-market. Supporting software solutions provided for the CPS and PPS switch families include an IDT-developed power calculator that allows customers to estimate power usage in various usage profiles. Customers can use this calculator to adjust device options to achieve maximum power savings.
Based upon proven IDT pre-processing technology, the CPS family includes an advanced feature set developed in conjunction with IDT customers to meet their specific interconnect needs. This feature set is built into the IDT solution to benefit customers when they are in the design phase, but also enables critical diagnostics during early stages of testing and continues to be useful in the end-application. The devices include a “loopback mode,” which enables customers the added flexibility to work with the physical layer of the IDT device and quickly identify the source of any performance bottlenecks. Additionally enhanced functions provide “kill” and “trace/mirror” capabilities that enable an added layer of security that is often critical in embedded applications.
Graphical User Interface
As a companion to the IDT CPS family, IDT also offers a proprietary graphical user interface (GUI) that is available to customers at no extra charge. The GUI allows IDT customers to configure and control every feature and function, as well as acting as a diagnostic tool for system troubleshooting during board bring up. The CPS GUI ultimately provides customers with significantly faster time-to-market and best-in-class performance while allowing them to fine tune their systems for optimal throughput and best possible signal integrity. The GUI is compatible with any PC running the Windows operating system through a USB connection off the PC to an I2C and/or JTAG port on the board.
Hardware/Software Development Kits Ease Evaluation and Design-In
The CPS solutions are supported by ATCA- and MicroTCA-compatible dedicated development platforms together with a comprehensive range of software development tools, such as GUI, API, drivers and third-party tools. Each kit supports all other IDT pre-processing solutions and sRIO-enabled solutions, such as the 10G Serial Buffer and CPRI FICs, and enables the designer to tune system and component configurations to meet system requirements. Moreover, to ensure that each system design is optimized for production and meets its time to market objectives, IDT provides customers with extensive collaborative support, including system modeling and signal integrity analyses, and schematic and layout review services.
Pricing and Availability
The new CPS device is available in a RoHS 676-ball BGA 27 mm x 27 mm, reducing package size in space-constrained applications. The new CPS device is currently sampling and is priced at $55 in 10,000 unit quantities. For additional product information on the IDT central packet switching solutions, visit
