Power Efficient and Highly Scalable Family of Switches Extend PCIe Adoption as Control and Data Plane Interconnect

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 21, 2008 – IDT® (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; NASDAQ: IDTI), a leading provider of essential mixed signal semiconductor solutions that enrich the digital media experience, continues to extend its PCI Express® (PCIe®) switch leadership position with the ongoing development of optimized solutions for targeted application segments. Today, the company announced that it is sampling the industry’s first PCIe family of switching solutions specifically tailored to meet the high-performance data and control plane interconnect requirements for demanding communications applications.
Comprised of three 16-port devices, the family offers lane-count options of 16, 22 and 34 PCIe lanes. The 16-lane, 16-port 89HPES16H16 offers economical, high port-count connectivity for control plane traffic between management processors, ASICs, FPGAs and I/O peripherals. The 22-lane, 16-port 89HPES22H16 and 34-lane, 16-port 89HPES34H16 offer flexible x8, x4 and x1 port configurations to support a mix of data and control plane traffic. Moreover, the large port widths enable efficient, high-performance cascading connectivity for switching complexes with more than 16 ports, and provide for redundancy and failover mechanisms.
The new IDT switching solutions offer a suite of features, including the required performance and optimal configurations that enable communications system architects to leverage PCIe’s power savings, scalability and cost advantages as a primary system or backplane interconnect. Each of the new devices features redundant upstream ports for multi-root support and failover, support for sophisticated quality of service with two virtual channels, and deterministic latency at full wirespeed throughput, ensuring predictable performance for critical system control and data plane traffic.

The new devices expand upon and complement existing system interconnect switching solutions offered by IDT, which feature a rich mix of hardware and software to enable the use of PCIe as the primary system and backplane interconnect. In addition, the system interconnect devices include the industry’s only 16-port and 64-lane PCIe switching solutions and target high port density data and control plane applications.
Each of the IDT PCIe switching solutions has a dedicated evaluation and development kit for device testing and analysis, and system emulation. Each kit consists of a hardware evaluation board with representative upstream and downstream connectivity, and an IDT-developed, GUI-based software environment that enables the designer to tune system and device configurations to meet system requirements. Moreover, to ensure that each OEM system design is optimized for production and meets its time-to-market objectives, IDT provides customers with extensive, collaborative technical support, including system modeling and signal integrity analyses, and schematic and layout review services.
Packaging and Availability
Each of the new IDT PCIe devices is available in flip chip BGA packages as small as 23mm with 1mm ball spacing. All three new devices adhere to PCIe Base Specification 1.1 and are currently sampling, with production shipments slated for end of Q1’08. The devices are available to the OEM community at a U.S. list of $43.00 for the 89HPES16H16, $59.00 for the 89HPES22H16, and $88.00 for the 89HPES34H16 in 10,000 unit quantities.
